Once Loved Dog Rescue

Giving hope to UK pound dogs

Dogs needing new homes

If you would like to offer one of these dogs a permanent home, please email to request a pre-homing questionnaire and a copy of our adoption guidelines to: sophie@oncelovedrescue.org.uk

Alternatively you may telephone: 07773 76874 before 7pm please.

Please note, if we are unavailable to take your call, we will call you back, but please leave a landline number where possible. Mobile phones are expensive for us to call back. Thank you.

Please note: All prospective homes will be required to have a pre-adoption home check and post home checks. All dogs available for re-homing are neutered/speyed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and de-flead. We generally do not rehome dogs to homes with children under the age of 8 years, but this depends on the individual dog and the circumstances of the adopter.

Honey…

Honey has been rehomed :)

Honey.foster2Honey.foster3Honey is a beautiful 2 year old (approx) female crossbreed. Honey came to Once Loved Dog Rescue from a pound where she had run out of time and was due to be put to sleep. Honey went into boarding kennels initially and is now in foster care. Her foster carers speak so highly of little Honey. She is extremely sweet natured, affectionate and well behaved. She travels very well, just sits quietly on the back seat of the car, she is house-trained, very responsive and knows her commands. She just wants to please :) She loves to play with her ball and toys and is such a fun-loving but sensible girl.

Honey is excellent with other dogs and just ignores cats, so she could live with dogs and cats. She is also excellent with children, and follows her foster carer’s grand-daughter around when she comes to visit.  Although we don’t normally rehome dogs into homes with children under the age of 8 years, Honey could live with younger children aged from 5 years and over. Honey is all round a truly gorgeous girl who is now looking for a home where she will be loved and cared for, for the rest of her life.

Please contact Sophie at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption application form.

Email sophie@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone 07773 76874 before 7pm please.

Please note, if we are unavailable to take your call, we will call you back, but please leave a landline number where possible. Mobile phones are expensive for us to call back. Thank you.

Daisy…The canine Mary Poppins!

Daisy has been adopted :)

Daisy is THE Canine Mary Poppins! She is fabulous with children, she adores them and can be completely trusted with them. Daisy’s foster carer has even been taking her to a ‘Steiner’ nursery with her little boy. The nursery have said they would like Daisy to be their mascot, as she so adores all the children and they just love it when Daisy visits!

Daisy is an incredibly beautiful, loving and caring girl, who is absolutely amazing with children. She adores children, and is so gentle and kind and sweet with them. Daisy is an ex poundie who was featured in The Daily Mail’s May 1st 2010 article about Death Row Dogs. We found a permanent home for her but a marriage break up meant that Daisy had to go into foster care.

She is fine out on walks with other dogs around but she just cannot live in the same house as other dogs. Her foster carer is struggling to find a way to keep the dogs separate due to how her house is laid out, and where the resident dogs spend their time. Daisy’s foster carer is completely heart-broken, as are we, as her foster carer loves Daisy so much as does her whole family, particularly her son who is a toddler. but sadly it will just not work out with the other dogs in the home.

Daisy has also had visits from a puppy owned by a friend of her foster carer. Daisy’s heart melted when the puppy visited, she played with the puppy for a long time, and they were both obviously so happy. Daisy has such a love for anything baby!

Daisy would love a home with children, but no other dogs, cats or small furries.

Daisy is housetrained, and is the perfect dog in every way for a family with young children. She is not good with cats, she travels beautifully, she is not destructive and is a roly poly cuddle bug! Her foster carer has nicknamed her ‘Winnie the Pooh’

Daisy is in foster care in Devon EX32 and her ideal home would be in the Southwest area. We will consider other areas, but it would need to be the absolutely perfect home for Daisy.

Please note, all prospective homes will be required to have a pre homing check and post home checks. Our usual restrictions on not rehoming dogs to children under the age of 8 years old do not apply in Daisy’s case as she is so wonderful with children.

Thank you.

Henry Little Legs…

Henry has been adopted :)

Henry Little Legs is a great big character in a teeny body. He is not quite sure what mixture of breeds he is, but his best guess is Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross Dachshund. Whatever he is crossed with he suits very well. Not quite elevated to the level that he’d have probably liked, but oh how cute do his little legs make him?!

Henry was another abandoned dog in the pound on the put to sleep list :( He spent a while in emergency boarding kennels where he was vaccinated and neutered. (Sorry about that Henry, but needs must!) And then it was off to his foster home in sunny Devon.

HENRY NEEDS A NEW FOSTER HOME ASAP
Although we would prefer a forever home for Henry, his foster home has an old stone wall surrounding the garden, it is covered in foliage and as it is not a level wall on the sides, he is able to get a foot-hold onto the wall and climb up it. This is a worry! so we are looking for a new foster home for Henry as soon as is possible. He wouldn’t be able to climb up a level fence or wall.

Henry is about 3 years old (we think) He is an absolute sweetheart. Henry is excellent with other dogs, as long as no treats, toys or food are around.
Henry isn’t cat tested, so we are looking for a home without cats. He could live with older, dog savvy children, over the age of 8.

The dogs that Henry is living with weren’t very impressed with their new house guest at first, but as testament to Henry’s lovely nature, He has won them over and the resident dogs love to play with Henry now.

Henry is a whole lot of personality for such a little man. He likes to ‘chase’ birds when they’re miles up in the sky, he knows he can’t catch them but gives it 100% anyway :) He is very loving, responsive and clever. He’s housetrained, fine in the car, knows how to sit and give paw, and he could no doubt learn all manner of other things with his own person. Henry has so much to give to someone and whoever is destined to be his adopter will have such a funny and loving little best friend.

Below is the latest news from his foster carer:

“Henry is so lovely. He has been sat on the freezer looking out the window at the Birds. He has spent ages, when he goes out, exploring the Garden. I looked out the window and there he was entertaining himself running up and down with a teddy. God love him. I must say ive had a good roar!”

Henry is in Foster care in the Devon area EX32

Teddy…

Teddy is looking for a forever home, or foster home. He is currently still with his adopters, but we need to find somewhere for him to go to ASAP as otherwise he faces having to go into kennels. We feel kennels would be the worst place he could go, as it would cause a lot of stress to this already sensitive young dog.

Teddy is a 13 month old neutered GSD Cross. Teddy was adopted from the rescue 8 months ago but is sadly being returned as his adoptive home have said they can’t cope with him.

Teddy is a beautiful and affectionate boy, but he can get over-excitable and he needs a calm and experienced handler to bring out the best in him. He has been over stimulated in his current home, so he needs someone who has knowledge of dogs of Teddy’s breed and his age, to bring out the best in him.

Teddy needs to go to a home as the only dog as he is afraid of other dogs and this causes him to be on the defensive around other dogs. He needs to be kept on lead when out and around other dogs, his current adopters aren’t comfortable with keeping Teddy on lead. Teddy has been taken to training classes with twenty other dogs present. As can be imagined, this has unsettled Teddy further around them, and exacerbated the problem, given that he is afraid of other dogs.

Teddy has ‘mouthed’ fairly strongly a couple of times, but he has not bitten. Again, this is something that an experienced handler could help him with. He is not aggressive in any way towards people, and we can’t stress enough that it was mouthing and not biting. But for this reason, we are looking for a home without children.

Teddy would thrive with one person or a couple who don’t have children, he is a very sweet but misunderstood boy who just wants the opportunity to be in a home that was meant to be for him. When he has that home, he will make the most wonderful and loyal companion for someone. Teddy is housetrained, travels well and is not destructive.

Teddy is currently in the Cornwall area, but we can arrange transport.

If you can offer Teddy a permanent home or foster home, please email sophie@oncelovedrescue.org.uk
or telephone: 07773 76874

Please note, if we are unavailable to take your call, we will call you back, but please leave a landline number where possible. Mobile phones are expensive for us to call back. Thank you.

Rowan…

ROWAN IS URGENTLY LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME OR FOSTER HOME

Rowan is a neutered 5-6 year old gentle giant Rottie boy. Rowan has been happily living with a female Rottie, but he is now being returned to rescue after two years in his home, as he and a new dog in the home are not getting along. Rowan is not good with other dogs generally, but he built up a relationship with the female rottie who was in his home. But Rowan does need a dog/cat and child free home.

He is extremely loving with people. I am 5.2″ and there is not much of me, and yet this dog was as gentle as a lamb with me, and he weighed 50 kilos when he came into the rescue. He needs a dog and cat free home or foster home, and also one without children as though he is lovely with people he is a very big and strong dog. He isn’t good with other dogs and needs someone strong and experienced, but he is an ex poundie, and he has been through so much in his life. He is a big, daft, loving soft lad, who is so very affectionate. He is non destructive, housetrained and travels well. Please can someone help him?

Rowan is in the Exeter, Devon area, we would preferably like a forever home or foster home in the southwest, but we can arrange transport to anywhere (within reason)

If you can offer Rowan a permanent home or foster home, please email sophie@oncelovedrescue.org.uk
or telephone: 07773 76874

Please note, if we are unavailable to take your call, we will call you back, but please leave a landline number where possible. Mobile phones are expensive for us to call back. Thank you.

Ellie…

Ellie has now been adopted :)

Ellie is a very pretty white Staffordshire Bull Terrier female who will be 6 this year, in October 2011. Ellie is good with children and is currently living with a 9 month old and 9 year old child. Ellie is scared of other dogs so we are looking for a home where she will be the only dog. Ellie does suffer from an allergy to dust mites and storage mites, and she receives immune therapy for this currently. We are more than happy to help whoever adopts Ellie with this. Ellie will chew her feet when she is stressed also, but we do not think this will continue once she is rehomed and she feels relaxed and content in her life. Also a cat free home is needed for her. She is housetrained and non destructive when left. Ellie does get car sick but we believe this will be overcome if addressed correctly. She is a very special, sweet, loving and affectionate girl who is a little nervous, but will shine in the right home with the right person who will give her the love and confidence she needs. Ellie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Ellie is currently in foster care in the Hampshire area.

If you can offer a forever home to this very special young lady,

Please contact Sophie at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption or fostering application form.

Email sophie@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone 07773 76874

Our usual restrictions on not rehoming dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old do not apply in Ellie’s case

Milo…

Milo has now been adopted :)

Milo has a facebook page too! Click HERE and ask to be Milo’s friend :)

My name is Milo. I am a beautiful Staffie cross boy. I am about a year old, and my life has been very difficult so far. I had a home once but they didn’t want me, and I don’t know why coz I did nothing wrong :(

But one day I found myself in what looked like a prison with lots of other dogs whose humans didn’t want them either :( I was so unhappy and I did not understand why I wasn’t wanted anymore. It broke my heart. Then I heard from one of the other dogs that the prison where we were had run out of room for a lot of us, and that we were going to go somewhere and we would never come back. That scared me so much! But luckily for me, a rescue called Once Loved Dog Rescue said they would help me, and they got me out of the prison. I went to what they call a boarding kennels as an emergency so I would be out of the prison and I wouldn’t have to go to that place where I would never come back from. I like the kennels I am in, but my heart longs for my own special person, and I would so love to lay my head on someone’s lap and be their best friend. That is all any dog really wants! I am no different, that is all I want too, but I’m still here in the kennels and that makes me feel sad. I have been here a long time. I am good with other dogs in the kennels, but I need to go somewhere that the people will understand that new dogs need to be kept separate for a little while, just whilst we are being introduced properly and carefully. No one thinks I will be mean cos I won’t! But this is just the rescue’s rules! No one knows whether I like cats or not, cos there are no cats in the kennels to test me with! But I have been walked by teenagers and younger children and I am so loving and attentive. I walked lovely on my lead too! Cos a nice man has been teaching me how.

I would really love a foster home or for someone to adopt me forever. Either would be lovely! If you think you would like to have me come and stay with you for a while, til the rescue finds me a home, or if you would like me to stay forever, please contact the rescue. CONTACT DETAILS BELOW!!! Sophie at the rescue would love to hear from you! I am in kennels in Nottingham, but the rescue can organise transport to anywhere :)
Lots of love
Milo xxxxx

Reuben…

Reuben has now been adopted :)

Reuben is a stunning, deaf, but not profoundly deaf, (Reuben can hear some noises) white Staffordshire Bull Terrier boy aged around 2 years old. Reuben was on the put to sleep list at the pound. We were able to give him a rescue space and he is now in foster care in the London, E15 area.

Reuben is not profoundly deaf and he can hear certain noises. He responds well to hand signals and the fact that he is hard of hearing doesn’t hinder him or make him difficult to look after! He is like any other dog, the only difference would be that his new owner wouldn’t be able to let him off lead in unenclosed areas, as there is always the possibility that he could run off and not hear his name being called.

Reuben is living with two Boston Terriers in his foster home, and he gets on very well with them, he sleeps close to them and plays with them nicely. He can be a little bit of an attention seeker, and will sometimes push the other dogs out of the way when he’s having a fuss made of him, but this is nothing out of the ordinary with many dogs!

We are looking for a home with teen aged children, or no children, as he is a big, strong boy, and he is not keen on young children. Reuben isn’t living with cats presently, and he does seem interested in them when out on walks, but this is often the case with dogs unless a cat lives in the home and the dog can get used to it. But a home without cats would be preferable.

Reuben is a really snuggly boy, who adores his cuddles. He is quick to learn, housetrained and travels well.

The Deaf Dog Network have kindly offered support for anyone who can foster Reuben, or offer him a forever home. “The Deaf Dog Network would be glad to support any potential adopter with training advice. (Its really not that hard at all.)”

Our thanks to The Deaf Dog Network http://thedeafdognetwork.webs.com/

Please contact Sophie at Once Loved Dog Rescue for an adoption or fostering application form.

Roxanne…

Roxanne has now been adopted :)

Roxanne originally came to us from a pound where she was on the put to sleep list. She came into foster care with us and was an absolute star. She is very responsive and she took to her training with ease and grace. She is housetrained, travels well in the car, and is non destructive. Roxanne is a spayed brindle slim build Staffie cross aged around 2 years old. She is exceptionally pretty and just adores to be cuddled!  While she was with us, her favourite pastime was to sit on someone’s lap with her ball in her mouth, and a daft, soppy look on her face :) Roxanne is good with other dogs and she is even good with cats! We are looking for a home with older children (we do not rehome dogs to families with children under the age of 8 years old) Roxanne has been good with children, (and will greet them with her whole bottom wagging when she sees them out on walks!) Most of the time she is a calm girl, but like any dog, she does have her boisterous moments, and when she has a mad five minutes, she needs a firm but fair hand to calm her. We feel for this reason, that if she is to be homed with children, she would be best in a home with teenaged children. Roxanne is currently living with a dog, (who is now her best friend) cats, and teenaged children in her foster home.

This dog is an absolute sweetheart and sadly she has had a rough time. We placed her into a foster home, and though the post homechecks we carried out were passed, we unfortunately we got a call from a dog warden to say she had been found wandering the streets. Roxanne is microchipped to Once Loved Dog Rescue, so luckily we were contacted by the warden straight away, but this of course meant that she had to be found yet another foster home. Roxanne is now in foster care in the East Sussex area,TN5
