Saffy is a beautiful 3 year old white Staffordshire Bull Terrier female. She has been speyed and is up to date with her vaccinations. We are ideally looking for a forever home for Saffy, but we are also seeking a foster home where she could stay until we can find her a permanent home, as we would like her to be in a more suitable home environment as soon as possible.
Saffy has been kept on the lead on walks for pretty much all of her life, so she isn’t all that keen on other dogs, (not surprisingly!) For this reason, a dog free home is needed, as well as a home without children or with older teenaged children. I have been told she is excellent with young children, but as I have not seen it first hand, I cannot confirm it personally.

Saffy is looking for a new home due to her owner’s ill health. Unfortunately her owner’s mobility has been affected, so Saffy has not been taken outside to do her business as often as she needs, this is leading to Saffy having no option but to go to the toilet indoors at times. This is not her fault, and she is a housetrained dog! But this being the case, she will need time and understanding from someone if she has accidents in the house which she is bound to do at first, until she is taken out once again as many times as she needs to go to the toilet, like any other dog.
This girl is absolutely beautiful, when I met her, she soon covered me with kisses and lay on her back for a tummy rub. She is just crying out to be loved. I’ve totally fallen for this poor lass, and I hope someone will come forward, as she needs a home where she will get the love, full life and the exercise she needs.

Saffy is currently in the Yeovil, Somerset area.

If you think you could give Saffy the loving forever home she is looking for, or you could offer her a foster home whilst we find her a permanent home,
This poor little love was going to be taken to the vets to be put to sleep for no reason. Maisie had puppies, and her owner sold all of her puppies too early! The puppies were only 5 weeks old! When the last puppy had been sold, she was no longer wanted, and her owner was going to have her destroyed. She is now safe under our care, and will be going to her foster home soon. Please check back for updates.

Update May 18th 2012:

Maisie arrived at her foster home, and began to fit in straight away! She is such a lovely girl. She gets on very well with the other dogs in her foster home, and she there is also a young boy at her foster home who she loves, and the feeling is mutual! She has had some issues with her skin, but this is clearing up with vet treatment. As she had only recently had puppies, she was still full of milk, but this is now drying up. She is an absolute darling, clean in the house, affectionate and nicely behaved. She will soon be ready for rehoming and she will make someone such a lovely friend! When she is ready to be rehomed, her details will be posted here: http://oncelovedrescue.org.uk/category/dogs-needing-new-homes/

In the meantime, here are some photos of Maisie in her foster home….

We named her after The Lady in the Lake, from the King Arthur Legend. And yet, this poor darling girl has never been treated like a lady in the past! She’s been so badly let down by humans. She is scared and confused in kennels and needs a foster home so she can begin to feel better about life.

We are urgently seeking an experienced, understanding foster carer for Lady Freya. Someone who will treat her like the lady that she is, someone to show her that not all humans are bad!

Lady Freya is a White staffie female, ex death row dog, aged approximately 1-2 years old. We placed Freya into emergency boarding to get her out of the pound.

Lady Freya has been fully assessed, and she is an absolute sweetheart, but does seem to have some anxiety issues, which she showed in barking after people if they walked away from her. She is also desperate for some attention and love. But she is a gorgeous, clever girl and sat and gave a paw when asked.

She is obviously afraid and bewildered at her situation. Freya could possibly be fostered with a calm male dog, although introductions would need to be taken slowly, with our guidance, but we would prefer a foster home with no other dogs, cats or young children. But with someone who was prepared to help Lady Freya with her socialisation with other dogs. No aggression was seen towards other dogs, but she clearly hasn’t been socialised properly.

If you think you could foster Lady Freya and you either have no other dogs/cats or young children, or you have one calm male dog, please please contact Once Loved Dog Rescue. Email cathy@oncelovedrescue.org.uk or telephone: 07770 795334 BEFORE 7PM IN THE EVENINGS PLEASE.

Freya is currently in the Lincolnshire area. Once Loved Dog Rescue is based near Yeovil in Somerset. We would ideally love a foster home in Somerset or surrounding areas for little Lady Freya, but we know this might not be possible, so any areas will be considered.

Any potential foster home will be required to have a pre fostering homecheck and post fostering homecheck.

Once Loved Dog Rescue covers all financial costs, ie vet fees, food, etc, whilst our dogs are in foster care. No financial contribution is asked for, unless a foster carer wants to contribute.

Please see further information about fostering here: Fostering information

Here is a message from her new adoptive family:
Belle is wonderful and so obedient and things are quickly falling into place. With regard to Belle and Mia (the whippet) we have made an appointment with our trainer and have gone through methods to get Mia (mainly) confident with Belle. Belle isn’t the problem, she would like to play with Mia but we think due to her stocky build Mia gets a little bewildered. We are confident that they will soon all be the best of friends. We are all so glad to have Belle as part of the family – she is as good as gold.

Then she went to a home and they didn’t want her anymore because she chewed when she was there. She didn’t mean to, She was just stressed and unhappy. But when she went to her next foster home, she didn’t chew a single thing. We are so happy for Betsy, as her foster carers have decided they love her too much to let her go (who can blame them!) She now has a home for the rest of her life, with the people she loves the most, and she gets to stay with her best canine friend, Harvey.

Guinevere Aka Gwen is a beautiful little staffie girl who was living on borrowed time at the pound. As you can see, she is painfully thin but she was found in an emaciated state. Gwen has been in emergency boarding kennels and will be arriving at her foster home this week. We are looking forward to meeting this gorgeous girl and watching her blossom into a healthy and happy dog. Please check back for updates. Gwen will not be looking for a forever home until she has spent some time in her foster home. As soon as she is available for re-homing, her details will be posted in our ‘Dogs needing new homes’ section.

Gwen has now arrived in her foster home. We think she is absolutely gorgeous!

Update from Gwen and her foster carer:

Snuggled up in a blanket after walkies and tea

I had a lovely first night in my foster home. So much nicer than kennels! Went for a little walk this morning. I was feeling a bit yuck last night but my foster mummy is very clever and she knew to give me rice this morning for my breakfast. I was hungry and I ate it all up! Then we played with a Kong. I love Kongs!! I’m a very happy girl this morning! xxxx

Sunshine and freedom!

All good here, hungry puppy and keeping food down, touch wood! Another walk has revealed she’s quite energetic, interested in everything and strong for a little un! Bit of training on ignoring dogs, bikes, people required, but she’s good at focusing when you have a treat, so should help a lot! Looking forward to a weekend of walkies and snuggles! X

Phew, I feel sooooo much better today! Woke up raring to go, played with my Kong a bit so my foster mum would know I was ready. She came downstairs but looking rather scruffy and definitely not ready to go out! She mumbled something about it being ‘quarter to four’, whatever that is. I had a quick trot around the garden and then came in and chewed my Kong for a bit. I decided foster mum wasn’t fit to be seen with in public so let her have another nap before going out. It was worth waiting cos we had a great walk! Went up a big hill, through loads of mud (yey!) and stopped at the top to watch the birds. Apparently we passed some dogs on the way back but I didn’t see them, I was too busy looking at the treats in foster mum’s hand! Got loads of treats, guess I must have been very good! Now, where’s that sofa…

19th January 2012 An update from me, Lady G!! well, where to start?! Having loads of fun here! Been on lots of walkies and I’m getting lots of treats for trotting along nicely! I get a bit excited when I see things sometimes, but I’ve improved lots already according to my foster mum. I’m even allowed on a magic lead that gets bigger and smaller now, so I can gallop around and sniff as much as I like on the quiet grassy bits. But I always go back to walk next to my person, cos I get a treat every time I do, so easy, can you believe it?! I’m getting lots of grub so maybe one day i’ll have enough of my own insulation so I don’t have to wear my coat. Although I look so cute in it, I might just wear it anyway! I do love my walkies, but I’ve decided my Kong is my bestest favouritist thing ever! I can chase it and chew it and I let the humans join in loads, they don’t have Kongs of their own, poor things.

Sleepy Gwen

January 27th 2012 Latest news from me: Boy oh boy it’s the weekend! I’m full of beans and raring to go, been learning to walk nicely all week and ready to put my new skills to the test with a long ramble tomorrow! Lots of snuggles here, now I know these people care about me and will treat me nicely I love cuddling up to them, it’s all warm and nice. My tail is getting better and my fur is becoming fluffier by the day, which really helps keep me warm in the chilly mornings, brrrrr! I really love to play and I’m teaching the humans lots of new tricks. I’m working on my high five, one day I hope to be as good as my foster brother Arthur, I’ve seen his video on YouTube! Xx

Beautiful Lily, who was abandoned at the pound, like so many other poor staffies. Lily was with Once Loved Dog Rescue for four months before she found her forever home. She had interest, but oddly, the homes kept falling through and didn’t work out for her. They say everything happens for a reason, and it was certainly true in this case. The lady who gave Lily her permanent home eventually found her, and it was clearly meant to be! Lily is now with her new adoptive ‘Mum’ and they are both enjoying each-others company immensely. We are so happy for lovely Lily, she is such a special little dog.

Message from Lily’s new ‘Mum:

Hello, Cathy,
Things are going really, really well with Lil, she is just the most amazing little dog. I think she’s settling in really well, and, if it doesn’t sound too weird, I think she’s got an amazing amount to her: I think she’s very sensitive, and although she is very cool about everything, I think she’s gradually becoming more and more relaxed and more herself.
She is such a wonderful little character – and she is, as you said, a very, very funny dog (intentionally and unintentionally).
I think she’s having a pretty good time living here: she’s amazingly sociable, with dogs and people, she’s fine off the lead, very playful with other dogs (whose owners so far have generally really appreciated it – they often say their dogs get a really good workout as Lil plays tag with them, etc. She gets on particularly well with a giant black poodle called Roland who’s also about 18 months old and is very boisterous and cheerful). She is also looking absolutely beautiful: I’ve been feeding her ridiculously expensive food (recommended by the vet, who she gets on so well with that she sometimes wants to pop in for a visit when we’re just passing..), and she’s slim, sleek and glossy – we’re always getting comments about how pretty she is…
I just have to say that she’s also been absolutely brilliant and very gentle/patient/relaxed with friend’s small children, niece, nephews, etc. She is (as you said), a very, very special dog.

Hello, Cathy,
A very, very quick one, as I shall be back in touch soon with pictures of the gorgeous Lil. As it’s a year today that Lily’s lived here, I thought I’d send a quick message to say hello, hope you’re all well, and thank you for rescuing/looking after my lovely brilliant little dog and keeping her safe until we found each other.
Anyway, just to say in the meantime, we’re both very, very well, have just got in from fantastic 2 hour walk, Lily is the toast of our local area and has more human and canine friends than I can keep up with (I just follow with her bags as she is greeted by her admirers)….

It has been a fantastic year, I don’t know how I managed without her…

Lily sends her love, but is now snoring.
Very, very best wishes,
T & L xxxx

Many more dogs met since and he has not put one single paw out of place. He stays with me if i ask and generally looks to me to see if its ok to go to other dogs, good boy!

He is now walking close really nicely on the lead and i barely need to hold the lead with more than 2 fingers, hes so gentle.

Mo you were right, he is very much my dog, he will lie close to my other half on the couch if im at my desk and theres no where else comfy to sit, but apart from that he sits at the end of the kitchen if im in there, he comes out and sits on my lap when i have a ciggy in the conservatory (and a very good lap warmer he is too!).

Im positive that hes come from a home with children as he is golden with them, Bear will just carry on regardless around him, my other half’s niece who has 3 dogs greeted him by giving him a big hug around his neck and he stood solid and gentle with her.

Amusing.. He is not a show dog though.. he enjoys his tricks and will play dead (if hes confused about what is being asked of him he generally rolls over dead), he does a very cute pretty beg, a full roll over and obviously lie and sit. ..However, if you ask him to preform these tricks for someones viewing pleasure he will generally complete all of the tricks he knows, but in the order he chooses and never in the order that i ask him too… he does like to appear daft to his intelligence. very amusing hound!

He is currently spinning in circles around the lounge chasing his tail, i believe this is my que to take him out for a walk.

Hugs n Licks from this end.

Honey came to us from a pound where she had ‘run out of time’ Honey has now found her forever home and is very happy with her new family and the cats in her forever home.

Honey in her forever home
Message from her adoptive Mum: I took Honey to the beach for the first time yesterday – she loved it, and rushed right into the water – after her ball of course.
She’s been very good with the cats – and I think has worked out that they’re boss – got a cuff from the old tom who’s taken up residence, and didn’t retaliate, so that’s good. Tilly the tabby just wants to kiss her!
I’ve left her at home for a couple of times – just for short periods, and she’s ok – not impressed, but settles down and doesn’t destroy the place.

She really is such a lovely dog - I just can’t understand how she could have been abandoned, because she’s been well trained, and it doesn’t seem as if she’s been badly treated. Best Wishes

We got a call from someone about a male staffie boy who had been kept in a cage for so long that his claws were horribly overgrown and he was covered in his own mess. A member of the public had noticed this dog, and taken pity. The owner didn’t want the dog, so he took the dog home and had his claws cut. He took him out for a walk, and he had been in the cage for so long that his feet bled. The poor boy! He couldn’t keep Woody though, even though he would have loved to, so we were contacted and Woody was placed with one of our foster carers.

Woody is now living life to the full. He found his forever home with a couple in the westcountry. Here is a message from his forever ‘Mum’

We are absolutely loving our new little family with woody hes definitely completed us, we have taken millions of pics so i hope u get them with this, hes definitely a star in the village and everyone remembers him at the car boots, it takes us twice as long to get round with everyone talking to him bless saying how beautiful he is, hes loving going for walks and deciding which room to sleep on at night but his favourite is to sneak up the covers between me and us and having a cuddle, hope that everthing is ok and that you like woodys pics, thank you so much again.
